"Put all your energy into music"
An interview with Tom Meyer, founder of the Peaky Beats.
When and how did you get your interest in electronic music?
I’ve been making electronic based music for about 6 years in groups and on my own under various names.
How did you decide to dedicate into djing?
I prefer to play live sets, after performing in bands for many years. But do enjoy djing a lot too
What is your criterion when you are dj sets? What inspire you?
I aim to keep my live sets different every time and interesting to watch, by physically writing tracks live and on the spot as well as playing tracks differently for each show.
You had a huge touring schedule last year. Is there anything you do to warm up before you go on the road, to get yourself into the right headspace?
I usually meditate or find a quiet place to exercise some breathing techniques just before I play
Were there any gigs that surprised you?
The last show I played in London for Fraise Records stood out for me, great crowd!
What was the last track that you heard that really blew you away?
Pretty much all recent tracks from Highrise & Pinder
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
Put all your energy into music.
Could you recommend a set that you are especially proud of it, and that we can see on your Soundcloud or on YouTube?
Peaky Beats Live Hybrid Set.
Northern Division Mix
What can you tell us about the scene of your city? What would you improve?
Leeds is a great city for music, especially the underground scene!
