"The world is going to open up soon again and we all are going to dance together when it happens!"
ManyFew creates music that works in all settings and transcends genres. Their openness to a wide range of sound is what has both made them a widely loved favourite, but also someone who operates in their own parallel musical world. We had a chance to talk to them, so enjoy your reading and check out their latest releases.
Hey, ManyFew! Where can we find you right now? How did you start your day?
Hey there!Right now we're spending lots of time in the studio producing new music and are getting ready to continue touring when the world is open up again.
Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music? Was it all internet based?
We're from Sweden and we have always been fascinated by house music. We got inspired by our uncle who has been Djing for many years. Growing up, dance music was always around us in some way. We recorded our own mix tapes and bought CDs on a regular basis. During high school and college we were working as DJs around Sweden and later on started producing music and we put it out on SoundCloud and got really good support from DJs/record labels.
Who have been your main inspirations (both musical and in 'life')? And how have they affected your sound?
We have always been inspired by entrepreneurs who have started something from scratch, from just an idea that has become a successful global business like Phil Knight (founder of Nike), Ingvar Kamprad (founder of Ikea). Our parents have always been supportive and they are big inspirations for us with their optimistic and positive views of things in life!
From a musical perspective we absolutely love soul, funk and dance music: Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Armand van Helden, Mark Ronson, Stevie Wonder, Bob Sinclair. So many legendary names!
How would you define your sound?
House/Dance music with a twist of funk.
How has your sound evolved so far?
We're always trying new things in the studio and evolving our sound with different instruments for example. When we started producing we had more of a progressive house sound, we still love the progressive vibes, but right now it feels like we're creating more house/groovy tunes.
Are you the type of producers who can create music on the fly or do you need to be rooted in a studio?
We love to produce while we are on the fly and take inspiration from different places, countries etc. We're always bringing our studio laptops/headphones with us when traveling.
What can you tell us about your latest release? What have you wanted to convey?
'Clouds' has some soul disco vibes to it. We had Studio 54 in mind when producing this track, a place that we would loved to experience, a colorful place with groovy vibes.
How are you living the current situation because of COVID? Has your work affected a lot? Do you think there is hope?
Yes there's definitely HOPE FOR THE WORLD! The world is going to open up soon again and we all are going to dance together when that's happening. Thanks to the vaccine roll out, this is going be a better year and can't wait for the festivals and night clubs to open again. We'll be more ready than ever!
I feel like the underground scene will continue to persist. Do you think we can go back to "normal" events and festivals?
We need to have patience, but yes, we believe it's going to go back to normal for festivals and events. The demand is going to be huge among party goers and it's also important for the economy to get back into the live scene. It will happen soon!
What projects are you working on at the moment?
Right now we're working on our upcoming release, which will be out on 3Beat Records. We really can’t wait to get it out there and hear what people think of it!
Do you have any final words of wisdom?
Stay safe and positive! We need to keep up the spirit, better days are coming for the world!
