Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music?
My name is Tom and I am from a place just south of London called Guildford. Music has always been a huge part of my life from as early as I can remember. Whether it was listening to my Mum and Dads 70s disco records when I was a young kid to growing up with listening to hours and hours worth of hiphop tracks with my boys, it’s always been a huge part. I discovered dance music when I was 16, going to parties and raves in London and it just grew and grew and grew for me. When I went to uni in Liverpool, one of my best mates brought decks and we would sit on them for days and days and days, proper obsessed with them. This spread to discovering new music, finding my sound and playing parties all over. 2 years ago I decided to do what I had always wanted to do and start making my own music.
How is your sound evolving? What artists and genres do you enjoy mixing right now?
My sound has quite naturally evolved from quite disco infused elements into a more deeper and emotive sound which emulates a lot of aspects from minimal and deep house.
How do you feel that your music influences or impacts your listeners?
Well hopefully they enjoy it haha! I always hope my music makes the listener feel something and takes them on a journey or brings them back to a place because thats what all good music does.
What projects are you working on right now?
I’m working on a mad amount at the moment! The neighbours aren’t happy. Couple of really special EP’s and singles for some of my favourite labels as well as honoured to be jumping on some remixes for some top draw artists as well. It’s all kickin off very nicely!
Where are you and what have you been doing now?
You can find me on the train home from a top weekend down in London playing music and spendin time with my mates and my family. Cant beat it.
Has that sound changed a lot in recent years? What is your musical criteria?
My sound has quite naturally evolved from quite disco infused elements into a more deeper and emotive sound which emulates a lot of aspects from minimal and deep house. My criteria is to always keep emotive and a lot of feeling in my tracks and making sure they keep you moving.
Do you feel safe now to play a more experimental sound?
Of course, every artist needs to play and make what they want because thats why we all do this.
We all know that the digital revolution has affected sales, but has it affected creativity?
I think now there is unfortunately too much emphasis on how marketable and how social media savvy the artist is, rather than the musical content they make. Hopefully one day, it reverses back to how it should.
