INTERVIEW: Jakob Mäder - Some Time (Constant Change)

Jakob Mäder creates music that works in all settings and transcends genres. His openness to a wide range of sound is what has both made him a widely loved favourite, but also someone who operates in his own parallel musical world. We had a chance to talk to him, so enjoy your reading and check out his latest releases.

Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music?

I’m originally from a little city near Ulm (in south Germany) and actually living in Stuttgart. As cheesy as it sounds, the movie Berlin Calling was one of my important music experiences. I started diving into this more or less „mainstream“ electronic music and from there years of digging in different genres lead my way to acid, disco, house, indie dance, trance, ambient and all the good stuff in that bubble.

What is the sound that you like to express the most and why? How is your sound evolving?

I guess it’s evolving through my musical horizon that’s constantly growing. Discovering new styles, genres and scenes is so interesting to me and that’s why i could never play one style only. Because i also don’t only listen to one specific all the time. Music is about connection, so the genre house is what i would roughly call my sound. And as you know, this genre can lead us into different directions: From ambient to acid, why not?

What could you tell us about Some Time? What were you inspired by?

This EP is 100% made in times, where clubbing seemed far away. I guess it was inspired by the club nights i remembered and where i wished to be, while jamming on my synthesizers.

What concept have you wanted to convey in this work?

It’s the soundtrack of a time after corona, where we all will need a proper amount of euphoria.

What has been your production criteria in this work?

I don’t have such criteria, it’s more about a vibe or a feeling in the moment of production.

Could you tell us what projects you are working on at the moment?

I prepared a new live set with a lot of new music and i hope to have a lot of possibilities to play it loud. And of course new music is incoming on my label Constant Change: Tracks by myself, friends and some remixes by artists from Leipzig and Cologne.

What pisses you off?

Intolerance.

What makes you happy?

Nature, friends and music.

Never stop listening.
