INTERVIEW: ISMASO

From the vibrant energy of Ibiza to the global electronic music scene, Ismaso—also known as Ismael—has been making waves with his unique sound and passion for the craft. With a career deeply rooted in the underground scene, he continues to push boundaries, both as a producer and DJ.

This year has been particularly special for him, not just musically but personally, as he welcomed the birth of his daughter in February. While he has taken a step back from live performances, his studio work remains as active as ever, with recent releases like Que Pasa and Subbo on Motel Calypso Records making an impact.

In this exclusive interview, we catch up with Ismaso to talk about his latest music, his influences, and what’s next for him on the Ibiza nightlife scene. Let’s dive in!

Hey Ismael, it’s great to chat to you. How’s your year been so far? Any highlights?

Hi how are things? First of all, it is a pleasure for me to be here and thank you for the work you do to give more visibility to emerging artists. The truth is that this year has seen a change in my life, since my daughter was born in February and I have been a little away from the stage, I am only active with productions in the studio. So far, I have only played at Alpicon House Music Festival (Zillertal, Austria) since.

Your latest release, ‘Que Pasa’/‘Subbo’, is out now via Motel Calypso Records. As a DJ, how does it feel to be able to play your own music out to a crowd?

The truth is that it is quite gratifying to be able to play musical fragments that you created yourself in your own studio and thus be able to express your feelings through music in front of so many people, it is a unique sensation.

Who would you say is your biggest musical influence and why?

I have many influences! I love Paco Osuna for the energy he uses on the track without raising his head, and I love Jamie Jones for how classic and elegant he is, I love Loco Dice for how cool and rapper he is...but my biggest influence is Carl Cox... since I was little I always listened to him... he is always innovating despite his age.

You’ve been based in Ibiza since 2014; what’s it like to live on an island famous for it’s dance music heritage?

Well, living in Ibiza is truly incredible, for me it is peace in winter and madness in summer, always good weather and people from all over the world, it is very nice because you make many friends of all nationalities and I love that but there is also always some corner where you can listen to good music with a good atmosphere, Ibiza is unique in that aspect.

Why did you decide to partner with Motel Calypso Records for your latest record?                     Motel Calypso club, they recommended the label to me, I saw that great artists signed with them... I said well let's go there... and it has surprised me in all aspects, from the signing, communication, promotion, I am super happy they highlight the work you do in the studio and that is very motivating.

Do you have any other passions outside of music?

I love Football, I am a big fan of the Real Betis team from Seville, I played since I was little but now I only play it in video games, it is my disconnection in general, I like to watch football.

Where can we expect to see you playing during Summer?

This summer is going to be incredible, we are launching a residency on Sundays at Keeper Ibiza with Mus1c F1rst, it looks very good with great well-known artists, apart from the place that is iconic with views of Dalt Vila in the same port of Marina Botafoch, this April 18 Pre-Opening of the season with Vito (UK) will be magnificent.
