Hermetics presents Vertigo of Eternity

Listen to Vertigo of Eternity HERE

Hermetics returns with Vertigo of Eternity, which sees the Colombian producer serving up a debut album even warmer, deeper, richer, and finer than the very best cocoa his home nation has to offer. Released 29th November, after a string of stunning EPs, Vertigo of Eternity is his most eclectic, diverse and incredible work to date.

Back in 2018, Santiago Nino (AKA Hermetics) participated in an Ayahuasca ceremony, (a spiritual, shamanic ritual designed to take you on a journey into a higher state of consciousness.) The experience was life changing. Hermetics explains more: “In the most intense moment of the journey, after the near-complete dissolution of my ego and my identity, I encountered an overwhelming, radiant, and dizzying spiral that defies description. The freedom, beauty, and terror were so intense that in that moment, I found solace in being a limited human, in a body, on this planet.”

Years later, Hermetics listened to an interview with Dutch philosopher and LSD experimenter Bernando Kastrup, who after a similar experience, coined the term Vertigo of Eternity.

Press play on track 1, Avalon (ft.Yoyoyo), and Hermetics will take you to his event horizon, teetering on the edge of all existence, building from a unique distorted pad bassline into the most beautiful sonic journey, simultaneously you are deep in the Colombian rainforest and at the centre of the galaxy. In Track 2, the titular Vertigo of Eternity, with it’s beautiful breakbeats and interplay between the sonically beautiful and terrifying, Hermetics sends you a message from that journey: “While many claim to seek freedom, very few truly desire it or could endure its weight.”

Gratitude brings a tribal beat, with glitchy insects flying through the ether, surrounding you, as the famous monologue from American Beauty sounds more poignant than ever before

Vertigo of Eternity is an album far greater than a collection of songs. The album flows beautifully, ever changing, ever innovating, transcending almost every conceivable genre, sometimes within a single track with an enormous sense of freedom.

Hermetics explains: “That sense of freedom has come at the cost of many deaths, sacrifices, and rebirths. Thus, this album serves as a tribute to limitless freedom—what I call the Vertigo of Eternity.”

The artwork for ‘Vertigo of Eternity’ comes from Primatus Rex who is a pseudonymous visual artist based in Madrid. His work combines dark humour, surrealist imagery, and political and social commentary. Though his artwork spans various media, his background in filmmaking is central to his approach. He views filmmaking as an all-encompassing art form that integrates painting, photography, music, and storytelling.  He considers art to be a sensory experience and is interested in exploring the intersections of creativity and technology.
