Rising out from the dense and diverse depths of Electronic Music is a compelling Artist, refreshing in charisma and captivating in originality; that talent is the multi-faceted creator, Canguru. A project conceptualised by Colin Crichton, the talented Artist now comes to Electronic Music under the alias of Canguru, determined to make an impression as he puts forward dynamic, bold, and powerful music, presenting individuality with his Trap sound. With a background in Classical Music and Jazz, Canguru approaches his place within Electronic Music from a unique perspective, integrating his varied experiences and rich understanding of music into his work.
A creator to his very core, creative ingenuity runs deep within Canguru; having taken to a variety of endeavours, whether musically as a Rapper, Producer, Saxophonist or Singer or exploring creativity outside of music as a Painter, Canguru continually places his passion for artistic expression front and centre. With music having played a pivotal role during his upbringing, as his mother, a music teacher herself, encouraged him to learn an instrument, Canguru soon embarked on carving out his own musical journey, taking to music performance and creation during his teenage years. As the hard-hitting sounds of Thrash Metal initially sparked Canguru’s interest, leading him to play in bands, it was only later, during his time at university in Manchester while studying for a degree in Sound Engineering, that Canguru discovered his love for Electronic Music. Immersed in the eclectic party scene of the city and witnessing live bands like The Chemical Brothers and The Prodigy, his inspirations and influences continued to expand, shaping his musical development and guiding him towards music creation within the realm of Electronic Music.
Throughout his journey, Canguru has fostered a diverse collection of creative stimuli to draw from; whether taking influence from genres like Electro, Alternative Dance, Techno, Electronica, Alt Hip-Hop and Trip-Hop or production inspiration from bands such as Gorillaz and Hot Chip, among others, Canguru culminates his varied tastes and interests into a cohesive style that he carries throughout his work. As a Vocalist, his lyrical content often arises from personal experience; aiming to translate meaning and emotion through each production, Canguru brings in messages of resilience out of failure and pain, delivering uplifting themes that resonate and impact listeners. With his evolution as an Artist and Producer remaining paramount, Canguru maintains motivation when it comes to sonic exploration, working to elevate his music as he refines his talents, skills, and signature sound, constantly striving towards self-development and musical individuality.
With his focus concentrated on making a name for himself within Electronic Music, Canguru continues to channel his creative energy into building out his production catalogue, carrying on with a momentum that has just recently seen him drop Trap productions like ‘Pick It Up’ and ‘West Goes The Sun’.
