(ENG) Andrew creates music that works in all settings and transcends genres. His openness to a wide range of sound is what has both made him a widely loved favourite, but also someone who operates in his own parallel musical world. We had a chance to talk to him, so enjoy your reading and check out his latest releases.

Hey, where can we find you right now? How did you start your day?

Hey, so now I'm sitting in my apartment in Kristiansand back home in Norway. My day has been good. Started early as it usually does. I love to start the day with brewing myself some good coffee before I head over to the college where I study. It's a perfect start on the day for me.

Can you tell us a little about your experience? Where are you from / how did you get into music? Was it all internet based?

So I`m a norwegian producer located in the city of Kristiansand, in southern Norway. I moved here in 2019 to take a bachelor in music technology and music production. Originally I`m from the town of Porsgrunn, two hours drive west from the capital Oslo.

I started my music career out as a guitarist and singer in my local church and after several years I started writing songs, only me and my guitar. Finally, I was introduced to the world of DAW`s and electronic music production.

I have a wide musical interest and I find inspiration in all kinds of musical genres.

Who have been your main inspirations (both musical and in 'life')? And how have they affected your sound?

This one is huge for me. My biggest musical inspirations has to be Avicii and David Guetta. They were the boys that got me to fall in love with EDM. But also a christian EDM group called JLE (Jesus Loves Electro).

I listen to so much different music. All from pop, punk to the big classical composers. But some other big mainstream artists I find a lot of inspiration from are The Chainsmokers, Kygo and Flume.

In life I got three big inspirations or heroes. The first one is my buddy Jesus Christ, and second is my grandparents.

How would you define your sound?

I would rather not. U know it's always hard to set yourself on a shelf. I don't wanna lock myself to one genre or one sound. I just wanna make music that I like, and honestly like to produce a lot of different stuff. But if I had to say something it had to be house, deep house/tech house. But again it's hard to say something concrete, haha.

How has your sound evolved so far?

Well, in the start I was so into Big room house and progressive house music. And listened a lot to Martin Garrix. But I didn't feel like that was me. I think every artist wanna strive to always develop and work on their sound, and it's the same for me. I wanna make music that has something unique to it, so people can hear that it's my song, my productions. And that's something I work on every day. And this last year I think I have started to find a path that I can stand by and build a foundation on.

What can you tell us about your last job? What inspired you? What do you want to convey?

My last job was working with youths. I really love working with and seeing people grow. I think what I wanna do with my life is to spread good. Show people there is more to life than just everyday normal stuff. And through my music I wanna give people the same good feeling I get when I lay down a catchy hook. Music is about interaction between people, a way to communicate, and I think it can go really deep.

Are you the type of producer who can create music on the fly or do you need to be rooted in a studio?

I get ideas and inspiration everywhere. So definitely don't need a studio. I like to go to different places and do different stuff to get inspiration. All I need is my laptop or my Iphone.

What can you tell us about your latest productions? What did you want to convey? What next productions can we expect?

I started working on “Cold” last summer and the instrumental came down really quickly, then I got in touch with american singer Zack Alwin. Really loved his voice and he was so hyped on laying down some lyrics for the song. We worked on it all fall. I think it turned out great.

Obviously it's about a failed summer flirt and I think sometimes it can be as simple as that. It's something we all can relate to and now in these strange times I think we all can daydream away to a good summer flirt and get lost in the idea of a world filled with just normal “small” day to day problems. But the song can have a deeper meaning as well. I like to have it open so the listeners can for themselves find their meaning in the song.

I'm working on at least one more song before the summer. Hope to get two songs out. It will be something amazing and my biggest stuff yet. Really looking forward to sharing more music with you.

How are you living the current situation because of COVID? Has your work affected a lot? Do you think there is hope?

For me it's always hope. I`m a positive person. I feel very blessed to live where I do now in Corona times, here the restrictions don't feel that hard on day to day life. I live with study buddies so I get the social needs covered. But I miss hugging people, haha. And ofc. I can't wait for things to go back to normal, whenever that is.

I feel like the underground scene will continue to persist. Do you think we can go back to "normal" events and festivals?

Sure, I think so. Not this year maybe, but some time, yeah. For sure. I know we all miss it. But we got to be patient.

Wow, this one is hard. Maybe just got to say the 5 most played songs for me last year. “Forever Yours “ Avicii Tribute by Kygo, “Lose Control” by Meduza, “Anywhere” by Lucas and Steve, “Eesier” Seeb remix, by 5 seconds of summer, and “Circles” by Post Malone

What projects are you working on at the moment?

A lot of new music. So I can`t wait to share more this year. So excited.

¿Quiénes han sido tus principales inspiraciones (tanto musicales como en 'vida')? ¿Y cómo han afectado tu sonido?

Este es enorme para mí. Mis mayores inspiraciones musicales tienen que ser Avicii y David Guetta. Fueron los chicos que consiguieron que me enamorara del EDM. Pero también un grupo de EDM cristiano llamado JLE (Jesus Loves Electro).

Escucho mucha música diferente. Todo desde pop, punk hasta los grandes compositores clásicos. Pero otros grandes artistas de la corriente principal en los que me inspiro son The Chainsmokers, Kygo y Flume.

En la vida tuve tres grandes inspiraciones o héroes. El primero es mi amigo Jesucristo, y el segundo son mis abuelos.

¿Cómo definirías tu sonido?

Preferiría que no. Sabes que siempre es difícil colocarte en un estante. No quiero encerrarme en un género o un sonido. Solo quiero hacer música que me guste y, honestamente, me gusta producir muchas cosas diferentes. Pero si tenía que decir algo tenía que ser house, deep house / tech house. Pero de nuevo es difícil decir algo concreto, jaja.

¿Cómo ha evolucionado tu sonido hasta ahora?

Bueno, al principio estaba tan metido en Big Room House y la música house progresiva. Y escuché mucho a Martin Garrix. Pero no sentía que ese fuera yo. Creo que todos los artistas quieren esforzarse por desarrollar y trabajar siempre en su sonido, y a mí me pasa lo mismo. Quiero hacer música que tenga algo único, para que la gente pueda escuchar que es mi canción, mis producciones. Y eso es algo en lo que trabajo todos los días. Y este último año creo que he comenzado a encontrar un camino en el que puedo apoyarme y construir una base.

¿Qué nos puedes contar de tu último trabajo? ¿Qué te inspiró? ¿Qué quieres transmitir?

Mi último trabajo fue trabajar con jóvenes. Realmente me encanta trabajar y ver crecer a la gente. Creo que lo que quiero hacer con mi vida es difundir el bien. Muestre a la gente que hay más en la vida que cosas normales de todos los días. Y a través de mi música quiero darle a la gente la misma buena sensación que tengo cuando pongo un gancho pegadizo. La música se trata de la interacción entre personas, una forma de comunicarse, y creo que puede ser muy profunda.

¿Eres el tipo de productor que puede crear música sobre la marcha o necesitas estar arraigado en un estudio?

Consigo ideas e inspiración en todas partes. Así que definitivamente no necesito un estudio. Me gusta ir a diferentes lugares y hacer cosas diferentes para inspirarme. Todo lo que necesito es mi computadora portátil o mi Iphone.

¿Qué nos puedes contar de tus últimas producciones? ¿Qué querías transmitir? ¿Qué próximas producciones podemos esperar?

Empecé a trabajar en “Cold” el verano pasado y el instrumental bajó muy rápido, luego me puse en contacto con el cantante estadounidense Zack Alwin. Realmente amaba su voz de él y estaba tan emocionado de escribir la letra de la canción. Trabajamos en todo el otoño. Creo que resultó genial.

Obviamente se trata de un coqueteo de verano fallido y creo que a veces puede ser tan simple como eso. Es algo con lo que todos podemos relacionarnos y ahora, en estos tiempos extraños, creo que todos podemos soñar despiertos con un buen coqueteo de verano y perdernos en la idea de un mundo lleno de problemas cotidianos "pequeños" normales. Pero la canción también puede tener un significado más profundo. Me gusta tenerla abierta para que los oyentes puedan encontrar por sí mismos su significado en la canción.

Estoy trabajando en al menos una canción más antes del verano. Espero sacar dos canciones. Será algo increíble y lo más importante hasta ahora. Tengo muchas ganas de compartir más música contigo.

¿Cómo estás viviendo la situación actual a causa de COVID? ¿Tu trabajo ha afectado mucho? ¿Crees que hay esperanza?

Para mí siempre es esperanza. Soy una persona positiva. Me siento muy bendecido de vivir donde vivo ahora en tiempos de Corona, aquí las restricciones no se sienten tan difíciles en la vida cotidiana. Vivo con compañeros de estudio, así que cubro las necesidades sociales. Pero extraño abrazar a la gente, jaja. Y ofc. No puedo esperar a que las cosas vuelvan a la normalidad, cuando sea que sea.

Siento que la escena underground seguirá persistiendo. ¿Crees que podemos volver a los eventos y festivales "normales"?

Claro, eso creo. Quizás no este año, pero sí en algún momento. Sin lugar a duda. Sé que todos lo extrañamos. Pero tenemos que ser pacientes.

Encuentra cosas por las que estar agradecido todos los días. Incluso las pequeñas cosas, y quizás especialmente las pequeñas cosas.
